I think both aesthetically and functionally this library is very dreary, daggy and drab. The colours are dull and ugly, the low seats do not allow for ergonomic laptop use, the seats outside are placed as an after thought with again, no tables ... I think being in a prime location, this library had a lot of potential and is let down by its' dull appearance and poor use of space. Should have taken a page out of Marrickville Library's design. Library staff should always get a thumbs up for serving the community though 👍🏽

Another thing I’ve personally witnessed many times at Haymarket Library is that when certain homeless or mentally unwell individuals enter the building — particularly dishevelled people who appeared exhausted and were trying to quietly rest or have a nap out of the cold — the air-conditioning systems suddenly begin roaring loudly and the temperature noticeably drops. The change can feel dramatic, to the point where sitting comfortably becomes difficult. After seeing this repeatedly, especially when certain individuals walk in, it no longer feels random to me. What also stood out was that staff often seemed reluctant to openly discuss what appeared to be the targeting of certain vulnerable patrons. In some cases, the atmosphere gave the impression that employees were uncomfortable acknowledging what was happening or feared repercussions from management if they spoke about it openly. I have also observed similar patterns at other Sydney libraries, including Hornsby, Kings Cross, Green Square, and Bondi Junction. The two Chinese ladies were rude I was middle of the toilet and she tried to hurry up and do my business 1. I was in the toilet , 1 man knocked on the door , kept hurrying us up 2. The staff are bullies rushing everyone out before closing especially when im just a customer who went to the library and I was still stuck constipated , I'm sorry that it took so long before their closing time! 3. I understand. U guys want to go home close everything 4. Get a new job of I don't like it, and one lady said , U should of gone toilet had an uncomfortable experience with staff near closing time. While I was using the restroom, I was repeatedly rushed to finish, including someone knocking on the door and asking me to hurry. I understand that staff need to close on time, but being pressured while in the middle of using the toilet was stressful and felt inappropriate. This isn’t something customers can always control. I’d appreciate more understanding and patience from staff in situations like this, especially when someone is already inside the restroom I hope someone rushes you when U need to go toilet

I would give 5 stars (it is a lovely space) if they added more tables for laptops/study. Chairs are really hard for posture with a laptop. And I know there's nothing to be done (the library is for everyone) but I always leave early because of the men who use the library. So many men using the library as a bed, laying around sleeping with stinky feet, bad BO.. One time a man walked through with no pants on. Kids are allowed to jump all over the furniture too. Why can't parent or staff tell them to stop? Seats are for sitting on, not dirty shoes.

A clean and popular library not far from Paddy's Market Light Rail Stop. The library is on Level 1 and Level 2, via lift. The 2 levels have staff assistance desk on each level. Free to join library membership. A range of seating configurations for reading, studying and laptop use. Outdoor terrace available for users to duck out to take a phone call or have a sandwich. Toilet and general environment is clean. Photocopying, printing and scanning are available. Scanning to USB is free. Refer to photo for printing and copying costs. Water cooler is available to top up your water bottle. Recycle chutes available for recycling batteries, blister packs, electronics and light bulbs.
