Worth visiting the place. They kept the place very well maintained. Small history written in various rooms are nostalgic. Very good for families.

I came today with a girl I look after on weekends and we both really enjoyed it. She especially loved having access to the iPad to learn more about the history of the house. We watched all the videos first and then had a better appreciation of the whole building because of it. Would definitely recommend as a calm environment away from the busy CBD. Also free street parking and an outdoor courtyard to sit in.

Free entry to Elizabeth Farm which is a very worthy place to visit with exhibits which viewers can hold/touch and has a pretty cottage garden with flowers, banana trees and large cactus plants. It is Australia’s oldest homestead, built in 1793 for wool sellers, John and Elizabeth Macarthur. Elizabeth Farm today has a 1830s style garden and the building has large verandas surrounding it which is perfect for the hot western Sydney summer time. In the 1970s the building was to be demolished as it was derelict but it was protected by a conservation order and turned into a museum. I really enjoyed visiting here and it reminds me of Government House in Parramatta Park. Open Friday to Saturday.

We did the special event evening tour 6pm on a Friday night. Getting there on time from the North shore at peak hour was challenging but easier than I expected. Parked right out the front. The tour was very enjoyable and I came away with a new respect for John MacArthur, who I’d previously thought was a fairly horrible person who’d been credited with his wife’s achievements. I wouldn’t do the night tour with little kids, or if you walk with a stick, because the footing’s a bit tricky in the dark but absolutely go there in the daylight, it’s well worth your time.

A beautiful place to wander around and learn about the history of the early settlers and their impact on the local population. Staff were friendly. You could walk around on your own but there were staff to hand if you had any questions. There was a cafe, shop and toilets. The property is accessible to people who have a disability.
