Re 11 West Street, Balgowlah Heights I should point out before starting that I cannot put a nail in the wall. This is relevant because I needed to identify not only an excellent, high quality architect but also someone that would be patient and protect my downside risk, being lack of building knowledge. We were referred to Michael by a trusted, highly experienced and successful friend in the building industry who had used Michael and Michael MaCormick Architects numerous times in the past. Our block was 1,070 sqm and zoned for 2 dwellings. Michael quickly identified with confidence the opportunity for 3 dwellings and asked us to trust him to successfully get through council. The DA, much to my surprise was approved in a very short period. I reflect now and think Michael is so thorough and detailed, it must have been a dream for them ! We used Hough Constructions for the building, as they are respected, had a long history and focused on the more exclusive section of the market. Not long after commencing the build, Covid struck and that was difficult for everybody, but Michael stayed calm and we got through it. Hello Michael, ...We were talking yesterday with some of the newbies in our street, all bright eyed and ready to start on their own homes, and it took me back to all those happy days spent around your table teasing out all the devilish details of our own home. Little did we know back then what a road to Damascus we were headed down! And even less did we realise just how much the finished job could exceed our already sky-high expectations. We love the house you created for/with us. We love what it adds to our lives. We pine to be home every time we're away for more than a day. And we're very grateful for the way everyone who was associated with the build was so inspired by your design and attention to detail that they, too, wanted to do their best work. The awards for our home and now the accolades in glossy print are testament to some extraordinary work by a huge group of people. And it all began in earnest on a sunny grass verge where we first sat down with you and your yellow note pad to discuss how life really could be, living in a truly special place in a truly amazing house. Fantastic architects and a pleasure to work with. Michael and Jo did an incredible renovation job on our house. It was a relatively small job and despite them having much larger clients at the time, they dedicated a lot of time to us, presented really innovative design solutions and managed an uneventful build all within time and budget.
