Paramount House Hotel is a non hotel, i.e. not cookie cutter. While it’s uber cool and hip (highly individual property), it is thankfully not pretentious or snooty. The rooms are filled with live plants which add a home sweet home ambience. Another thing that makes PHH uniquely different is the luxurious French flax linen bedding. And there’s more - at 5pm everyday, a bottle of orange infused sparkling water is left in your room. I could go on and on about all the thoughtful touches. The hotel is not brand new, but still looks and feels very new and in trend. Special shout out to Margherita and Luis who took good care of me during my stay. They were very accommodating to my requests (and complaints). Speaking of complaints, there is a noise problem. You can hear footsteps above you and the rooms next door. And traffic and drunk people outside the windows. Not great for light sleepers. Despite the buzzy and loud neighbourhood, PHH is undoubtedly the coolest hotel in Sydney. Very comfy and cosy rooms, awesome staff and great location with easy access to everywhere and everything. PHH is the “permanent vacation” every discerning traveller needs.

The hotel location is lovely, and the rooms are stylish and comfortable, but the service missed the mark for the price. I stayed here last year and notified staff in advance that I was proposing, hoping for something to make it special. Instead, I was just pointed to the wine menu. They just didn't seem to care. At check-in, the agent (while very nice) repeatedly asked what our plans were, making it obvious the team hadn't communicated or noted the special occasion of the booking. On a practical note, the parking lot used for the hotel is tiny and incredibly difficult to navigate. It’s a beautiful space, but the hospitality felt unconsidered. As nice as the hotel was, I probably wouldn't stay again because we just felt like a number.

I had a really lovely stay at Paramount House Hotel. My room with a balcony/terrace was especially pleasant, and the staff were attentive, friendly and genuinely helpful throughout. I also loved the slightly offbeat personality of the place, from Paramart to the cafés and restaurant in the building. The location in Surry Hills was ideal for exploring Sydney, with plenty around while still feeling quite relaxed. Overall, I really feel I picked exactly the right hotel for my Sydney stay.

How does this hotel continue to create such a warm and welcoming, perfectly furnished and incredibly comfortable place to sleep, rest and hang out after almost 10 years. I have been staying here for all those years and there has maintained a consistent standard of greatness. My favorite parts of the hotel are 1. The scent! How do they pipe it in? It makes me instantly relax. 2. The linen 3. The terrazzo 4. The unique room layouts, no two rooms are the same, so each time you stay you get to find your favorite, my current fave are the little rooms on level 1. 5. Check in and check out is so simple, with warm welcomes and service. 6. The turn down sparkling water with an orange slice. 7. The Aesop!! 8. Some rooms have a glorious Japanese style wooden bathtub which if you get one, do yourself a favor, fill it up and soak! It can make your shower a little awkward but it is a fun change up to your regular. But the icing on the pasty!!! The rooftop AP Bakery You can pad upstairs in your slippers and robe and be the first customer of the day, sneak back down to your room and have pastries and hot coffee in bed!
