We have 450 inpatient beds and almost 3,000 staff. Each year we care for more than 58,000 patients in our Emergency Department and around 50,000 patients are admitted to our Hospital. I recently spent a night at Prince of Wales Hospital in Randwick following bilateral inguinal hernia surgery after being on the waiting list for around 10 months. I chose Prince of Wales because I was quite anxious about having surgery, particularly after a previous hospital experience elsewhere that had left me feeling apprehensive. From the moment I arrived, every member of staff made me feel safe, respected and genuinely cared for. From the admissions staff, the pre-operative nurses, the anaesthetic team, my surgeon Dr Christopher Lehane, the recovery room staff, the ward nurses and the overnight nurses, everyone treated me with professionalism, kindness, warmth and compassion. A special thank you to Cameron in Recovery, and to the young male nurse (who's name I didn't get) who sat beside me and held my hand while I was coming out of the anaesthetic and feeling frightened and disorientated. That simple act of kindness meant far more than you could possibly know, and I'll never forget it. The follow up Doctor took the time to explain exactly what was found during my surgery and answered my questions with patience and reassurance, which I greatly appreciated. Every person I e

This morning I had to undergo a Barium swallow at the Medical Imagining Department of the Prince of Wales Public Hospital. The staff in this unit of the hospital treated me like a VIP and were professional as one would expect, however were so caring. Following this I felt Naucious and was treated in their post procedure room to make sure I was ok. Again the Nurses and Doctors were sympathic and made sure I was given medication to stop my vomiting. People (patients) are often quick to complain, however I had the opposite experience and to sing their praises for their wonderful work and care. Thank you.

My wife was rushed there for an issue. Nurses and doctors were amazing. Natalie and David are fantastic but the system is terrible. 22.5 hours spent there thanks to the government. Under staffed and empty beds why people suffer and wait in emergency. Sadly this is the same at every hospital in australia and it puts so much pressure on those wonderful staff

Dr Andrew Cheung was fantastic. So caring and had a wonderful bedside manner. The nurses in the day ward Iona, Leoni, Jarred, Stevie couldn't fault them. Thank you for making a horrible experience in the hospital, bareable. Hats off to you all.

Nobody wants to visit the hospital but if you have to POW is pretty good. It is one of the biggest in Sydney and has every speciality covered. It is a huge place so check the map before you go for the closest entry point. There is adequate parking but, like all hospitals, it's expensive. The light rail stops outside on the High Street side. I've spent way too much of my life here. The ward nurses are great. The ED can be chaos and sometimes they are good, but sometimes I've been unlucky and had the dismissive Dr or the trainee that messed up. But overall it performs well. The new ED drop-off zone needs seating though. If you are unwell or disabled or elderly and you are waiting there for transport there's nowhere to sit down. There's plenty of seating at the other entry/exit points. The facilities are usually clean. A range of cafe and vending machine options for snacks but they are pricey. The best is the Gozleme tent that pops up outside a couple of times a week. The public outpatient department is not so great. Long waits way past appointment time, no guarantee you'll see the Dr you were referred to (sometimes it's one of their team instead). Private patients are treated better
