St Andrew’s Cathedral began twice: an 1819 scheme was abandoned, and the present project begun in 1837 stalled during the economic depression of the early 1840s. Edmund Blacket inherited James Hume’s partly built walls, extended the cathedral and added its central tower before consecration in 1868. Leslie Wilkinson reversed its internal orientation in 1941; restoration in 1999–2000 reversed it again and reinstated surviving elements of Blacket’s arrangement. Today choral Prayer Book worship shares the cathedral with contemporary services and Chinese-language ministry. Its community programmes serve people living on the street and bring housing, health and legal agencies into the precinct, while State funerals retain a wider civic role. The cathedral built for colonial Anglican Sydney now serves worshippers, vulnerable residents and the wider city from the same inherited Gothic fabric.

A lovely Cathedral inside and out. Gets a lot of international tourists visit for services... which is awesome. A favourite with tourists for photos.

I'm not Christian but enjoy the architecture of all buildings. So as I walked past I thought I would pop in for a look. Well, they were waiting for me. Two seperate people tried to convert me to their fantasy. I know I entered their house for sure but really??? Will not be going back to this church. But it did have some beautiful windows and a lovely pipe organ.

Thursday night I had the opportunity to visit and participate in Evensong Service. I’d heard it described as a little oasis during the week. It truly was - in the midst of anxiety redirected my thoughts to our creator. Short message from the Dean. Also wonderful how the church is loving those on the margins with their Monday Tuesday weekly Street T breakfast - for free. Truly loving God and loving neighbour

I was at St Andrew’s Cathedral in Sydney, near Town Hall, for the ANZAC service, and it added another deeply moving dimension to my experience. The moment I stepped inside, I was struck by the beauty and reverence of the space. The interior of the cathedral is truly remarkable—its sandstone walls, timber roof, and finely detailed craftsmanship reflect a rich history that has been carefully preserved. The Gothic Revival architecture creates a powerful and contemplative atmosphere. Soft light streams through the stained glass windows, casting subtle colours across the interior and enhancing the sense of calm and reflection. During the ANZAC service, this setting made the experience even more profound. The space doesn’t just host the ceremony—it elevates it. It’s a must visit place if you are visiting Sydney.

This church is an incredibly beautiful place you must visit when in Sydney, located right next to Town Hall. This spring, it’s especially stunning with vibrant flowers under a clear blue sky. In just a few days, you’ll also see rows of blooming jacaranda trees. On weekends, it’s often crowded with tourists. You’ll feel a sacred atmosphere when stepping inside.

St Andrew's Cathedral is a cathedral church of the Anglican Diocese of Sydney in the Anglican Church of Australia. The cathedral is the seat of the Anglican Archbishop of Sydney and Metropolitan of New South Wales I have walked past this Cathedral numerous times in my life and I can’t believe today was the first time I have been inside. Our group came to see the Army Bandcall which performs there on Wednesdays at 12.30pm. It’s a free concert and it’s first come, first serve as far as seating is concerned. Definitely worth a visit. The concert 🎵 goes for approximately one 1️⃣ hour. The Cathedral itself is amazing, the stained glass windows are so beautiful and I really recommend climbing the stairs at the back to view the cathedral from above. There are toilet 🚻 facilities available, including disabled toilets. The entrance from the front includes a couple of steps so if you are in a wheelchair or have other mobility issues, I recommend entering from the side entrance. There is limited parking 🅿️ at front but would fill up fast but the cathedral is right next to Town Hall Railway station 🚉 an
