I had the most horrendous experience. I reported to the ED after going to a Medicare Urgent Care clinic and being told that I should go into ED straightaway. When I arrived, I was triaged within an hour but they didn't bother to open the referral from the Urgent Care clinic, and I waited for 5.5 hours to see a doctor, despite the Urgent Care clinic having concerns that it might be an emergency. In triage, they asked me for a blood test but when blood was being taken, the nurse was wiggling around the canula even though she knew I'm sensitive to needles. The nurse suddenly left in the middle of the test without telling me she didn't successfully draw blood and it is only after 45 minutes another nurse came and took blood. When I said I was feeling light-headed, they said there was no bed for me to put my head down. In the time I was waiting to be seen, I already indicated 3-4 times that I was in pain and sitting down causes more pain - I was ready to head home as I was in so much pain and distress & it felt like my case was not critical enough, even though the Urgent Care clinic had deemed my symptoms to be an emergency. Thank you to the staff at St Vincent’s Hospital emergency ward I just wanted to write a review as to thank all of the lovely staff who helped me over the weekend just past. I came in on a busy Sunday evening, everyone was kind and warm even during the strong rush of people. I was admitted by Josh who was the only one doing checks in the emergency room, walk in side. He was fast, efficient and honestly funny. He rushed me though, to Amy/ Emily- (sorry can’t remember) who was very happy to explain what was happening and made me very comfortable, as it was clear my condition was an emergency. I was then left in the care of Trudy, who was over seeing the department that evening, a kind motherly figure (obviously very knowledgeable) who was so so so lovely. The mum of a Cute dog (in picture form only unfortunately). She helped move me along the process with a wonderful energy dispute the number of moving parts she had going on. In the morning It was Ken doing a stunning job looking after me until the unreal trio from the EMT department who did my operation (names unfortunately lost to the sands of time - but a fantastic team nonetheless) they made me feel really comfortable with the

I was at the ER from 10am this week , and I honestly have never had a better experience. All staff were friendly and I loved how every hour this quirky older doctor with tattoos would greet all patients waiting in the ER and personally offer to get tea coffee or food he was such a gentleman When he wasn’t around this other lady worker would do the same ask if you needed anything and they would also clean all the seats that had been previously occupied . I was out of the ER relatively fast. But I had never experienced this wonderful treatment at any other hospital the little attention to detail was so nice. Thankyou St Vincent’s team I know where to go from now on if I need help

I rush my partner to the ER after she was bitten by a dog and her wound was bleeding nonstop. We were very concerned about the risk of infection and the need for urgent care. After arriving, we were told to wait. After about an hour, a staff member briefly checked in, asked about the situation, and then told us to continue waiting without providing any immediate treatment or even basic wound cleaning. We were then advised it could take another five hours before her wound would be properly attended to. Leaving an open wound untreated for that long is extremely concerning. This experience was very frustrating and disappointing. I understand that emergency departments can be busy, but basic initial care especially for an actively bleeding wound should not be delayed like this.

Had my worst A&E experience here. I was told on arrival that the wait would be around two hours, but I ended up waiting seven hours - four of them with a cannula in my arm - and was never seen by a doctor. I ultimately left at 6am to seek care from my GP instead. What was most frustrating was that when I arrived, I specifically asked whether I should stay or if it would be reasonable to see a GP in the morning. I was advised to stay. After waiting all night without being seen, that advice feels incredibly disappointing. I completely understand that emergency departments prioritise the most urgent cases. However, clearer and more realistic communication about wait times would have made a huge difference. If the likely wait had been explained honestly from the start, I could have made an informed decision about my care.
