Sydney is in New South Wales, on Australia's east coast, where summers are warm and humid, winters are mild and businesses keep to standard hours year-round with the usual public-holiday changes. Getting around Sydney is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy centres, and most suburban shops have their own car park. Went there last Wed (29/07) with a friend and we had an amazing experience. The staff were attentive and the manager Issa came over to check on our table, which was a lovely touch. The cocktails were delicious and the food was generous in portion and tasted amazing. We’ll def be back!

Visited the Grounds on a Sunday during the late-morning rush. Despite the crowd, we were seated within 30 minutes. However, we were asked to place our breakfast order quickly before the 11:30am cutoff. The food was average and did not particularly stand out, although the deconstructed hot chocolate was a unique touch. We also felt pressured to leave shortly after finishing our meal. We were just dining for less than an hour! I’ve never felt so rushed while dining at a restaurant before, which made the overall experience less enjoyable. Would have been more enjoyable to have dined at the food court πŸ₯²

Breakfast on a weekday and the place is packed. We were relatively early and good we booked. Usual sourdough, poached egg and some mushrooms for me. It was ok. The hot chocolate which was the glass coated with melted chocolate was overly sweet for me. The novelty of pouring your own hot milk (hot water) seemed fun but unnecessary as it made the drink less warm for my liking. We were seated beside the window overlooking QVB which was lovely. Will need to try the other menu items and booth seating.

The Grounds of the City offers a great breakfast experience with a strong menu and consistently high-quality food. The dishes are well presented, portions are satisfying, and there’s a good mix of classic breakfast options alongside more unique choices. Service is generally efficient and attentive, keeping things moving even during busier periods. That said, the ambience feels more like a busy dinner setting rather than a calm breakfast environment. It can get quite lively and crowded, especially during peak hours, with a noticeable level of noise and constant movement. While some may enjoy the energetic atmosphere, it takes away slightly from the relaxed, slow-paced breakfast vibe many people look for. Overall, it’s still a solid spot for breakfast in Sydney, especially if you prioritise food quality over a quiet setting.

The Grounds of the City is a beautiful spot with a vintage yet chic atmosphere that immediately catches your attention. The place is full of thoughtful details that make everything feel very aesthetic and charming. The interior is particularly lovely, but there’s also an outdoor seating area that’s pleasant if you prefer a bit of fresh air. The bar area is surprisingly comfortable as well and works perfectly if the restaurant is full and you can’t find a regular table β€” you can still sit there and enjoy a full meal. The drinks were fresh and delicious, and the service was friendly, quick, and attentive. Food presentation is great, portions are fair, and the flavors are very enjoyable overall. The only small downside was the bread on the steak sandwich, which was a bit hard, but everything else we tried was really tasty. This is a great place for a special brunch, a casual celebration, or simply a beautiful dining experience while exploring the city. It does get quite busy, so making a booking is recommended. If you arrive without one, the hostesses are very friendly and will usually put your name on the waiting list and help accommodate you as soon as possible. A helpful tip fo
