Me and my friends bought a disposable camera to take photos with and one of my friends got kicked accused of “up skirting”. Security lied and said they had footage of the up skirting happening but wouldn’t share it with us. They suggested to my friend that he destroys his camera (destroying the evidence that he didn’t do the crime) to be proven innocent and wouldn’t let us back in for the night. Every photo that was taken was of us and every shot was above the shoulders. They told us to “contact them next Friday to prove our innocent”. Why do we have to go out of our way to prove our innocence with 0 prove of us doing anything remotely like that. I am ashamed that my friend got accused of anything like that and I feel dirty coming to this club consistently and I don’t think I’ll ever come back. I don’t get why every club allows us to take photos but this one kicks us out after paying for drinks and being regulars, I doubt we’ll come back, we all feel disgusted by tonight’s events.

Situated in the Bristol, Retro is a step back in time and definitely lives up to its name. The doors open at 9, but realistically it doesn’t get busier until later. The tracks are classic and atmosphere is fun. They have booths if you want to feel special. Is you want a fun night out, add Retro to your list.

Retro in name only..... The staff were polite, the new fitout is cool, but...... The music could only be considered "Retro" if you were born after the year 2000..... The DJ playing on the night we went was promoted as playing music from the 80's & 90's.... yet this was hardly delivered... The club may claim that the DJ was "playing to the crowd"... which I agree was mostly 20-30 somethings..... yet if the place is trying to build a reputation of being a nightclub of some repute with an up-market vibe, playing banger retro tracks from the 70's onwards (which there are literally hundreds of tunes to choose from).... then show consistency and play good, danceable, well mixed tracks and anyone of any age with a heartbeat will dance to them... Otherwise this place will just become another Ivy.... BTW, the DJ playing in the rooftop bar on the same night obviously got the memo.... but sadly that bar closed at 10pm.....

To put it concisely, the Retro was absolutely appalling. Where do I begin? I went with three of my close friends on a Saturday night, and as soon as we walked in the vibe was just odd. It was filled with all manner of patrons, most notably droves of creepy men and women over 40 preying on younger people. It was not even 5 minutes before my friend and I were groped on the dance floor. Not to mention, the security guards were rude and standoffish, the bar staff were incompetent and slow, drinks were expensive, and to top it all off the music was just plain terrible. Calling this club “retro” would be like calling grass purple. When I heard there was a new club opening that played older music, I was ecstatic and couldn’t wait to check it out. Yet the DJ was horrible at mixing songs, and chiefly played regular 2000s and 2010s club anthems with maybe a sprinkling of 80s and 90s. The Retro describes itself as “focusing on … classic hits from the 1970s to 1990s” yet I didn’t hear a single 70s song. Where was Cher? Where were the BeeGees? Queen? Bowie? Donna Summers? ANY classic retro music? If I wanted regular modern pop and hip-hop club music and a predatory atmosphere, I would have

I'm a Xennial reviewing the new Retro, first time coming back since the early noughties. Space is fitted out nicely, good selection of cocktails. Crowd had a good vibe. The music was hit and miss - there were some of the fun 90s tracks I was expecting, but also many more tunes I wouldn't class as retro, things you could hear at any other club. Hoping you stay on brand for future nights.
