I would not recommend this aged care service. We experienced a severe lack of staff, with caregivers frequently arriving late and leaving early. On occasion, they would leave my mother sitting in car as it was quicker for them. Also would do their own shopping on my mother’s time. They also repeatedly purchased the same items, resulting in unnecessary duplicates-at one point, we ended up with three jars of both jam and relish. Staff members also lied about being sick and failed to show up for their shifts, leaving us without support. Additionally, they failed to return my mother’s disability tag and then admitted it might be lost. When I raised concerns via email, they took no responsibility and simply ignored my messages. The lack of accountability and poor service make it clear that this company is not one to trust. Think twice before using them.

My mother passed away and money was owed to the family from the account with opal. Confirmed by Centrelink in 5th December, called everyday since then and now one has called me back to advise when we can receive this back to the family. $30k owed to us. They're Just a greedy bank who will ignore you hope you go away.

The communication at this facility (Murdoch Gardens), and Opal generally, is atrocious. Calls and messages went unanswered. Face to face requests were never directly attended to unless strongly insisting. Basic requests like fresh water and cleaning faeces from nails were consistently neglected. It's clear that communication and quality care are not priorities for Opal, and as the facility is ultimately owned by a finance company, it seems profit comes before the residents' welfare. That is shown in their cynical approach to returning the RAD to the estate. Some previous reviews give glowing reports early on about staff etc that have now moved on. The original staff that introduced us, I would give 5 stars but they have all moved on. Both my parents died in this facility and had been there for some years. Any facility run by OPAL I would not recommend. Any positive through staff or particular facility is far outweighed by negatives dealing with OPAL as a whole.

I support the many reviewers who are attempting to warn families about the realities of becoming involved with Opal Aged Care. Please listen. Please research thoroughly as suggested by other reviewers and if you must place a loved family member in one of Opals growing collection of facilities, be vigilant. Visit often. Visit on different days and at different times. Arrive unannounced. Be there at meal times. See what your loved ones are eating. Ask for what your loved one needs if it is lacking and do not give up until you actually witness these needs being met. This could be a plate of fruit or a toothbrush or a medical appointment. Make sure that services promised are services delivered. Check your loved ones skin, their teeth, their feet for signs of poor personal care and act accordingly and quickly. And politely, because all of the staff do their best within this appalling for profit framework. This is why I give one star to Opal as an aged care provider and not to the actual facility I presently have a connection with. Finally, please look beyond the cosy rooms the atmosphere and the marketing to our emotions. Do not judge the book of Opal Aged Care by its beautifully c

As an individual who works in a health care environment myself, I have never seen seen such an exceptional group of staff. I am sad for the fact that every time I have needed to visit Australia I have had to come due to a death in the family, I am delightful though that my mother was taken care of, in no other better way than this wonderful place had to offer. I have come to know that this facility is going through an inspection/accreditation of some sort and I for one who have stood these events have a clear understanding of how these things work, I wish I could be there to support. I am certain that the staff and the facility will sail through this event with flying colors. With the short amount of time to get to know the wonderful staff I would like to extend my gratitude to Ms Mary, Ms. Shannon, Mr. Robert, Bridget and Pam, and Ms. Jenny who I have also come to know that she went out of her way to accommodate my mother's needs. GOD BLESS YOU ALL.
