The joy of being spontaneous certainly paid off. Wandering Surry Hills on a Saturday afternoon, we were drawn in by the elegant burgundy exterior with cosy tables under the footpath heaters. We had our dog with us and thought, “This looks perfect.” From the moment we arrived, the service was warm, welcoming and knowledgeable. The menu celebrates Australian produce, and every dish we tried was a credit to the chef. Our choices were the lamb with the sourdough, the tuna, and the potato scrolls with seaweed butter, which were all absolutely delicious. A wonderful lunch and somewhere we’ll happily return to so we can further explore the menu.

First time at Arther and I couldn’t have been happier with the food which is after all what it’s all about. The Australiano hour school prawns are a must and sit pretty well with an ice cold Philter Super Cool Lager… The lamb ham with muntries and a plate of their beautiful sourdough was a great entry into the main menu. We had the abalone and mushroom skewers..a little light on the abalone but nice flavours, the roasted sugarloaf cabbage which had a lovely touch of mint and the coral trout with vongole and turnip…while the seafood was perfect the turnip did absorb a lot of the salt from the dish. I found one of my favourite bottles of wine in the wine list and discovered a lovely macadamia aperitif which ended the meal perfectly. We look forward to coming back

Arthur is back with a bang! After some time away renovating the space and reformulating the menu, I had the pleasure of dining there on their highly anticipated opening night. The venue is intimate and warm, with a range of seating options, including places at the bar and tables overlooking the open kitchen. While the tables are quite close together, being amongst fellow diners is not a problem, unless other patrons feel the need to unfairly voice their displeasure both at the table and online. We began with Australiano Hour, which offered an excellent range of drinks and snacks at reasonable prices. The spritz was a highlight, while the sourdough and kefir butter were hearty and delicious. The prawns were thoroughly enjoyed, particularly with their accompanying sauce, and the sea urchin hash brown was a fantastic combination. We then moved on to the main menu, beginning with a round of Aussiefeller oysters. The warm cheddar and beer flavours paired perfectly with the oyster, and we enjoyed them so much that we quickly ordered two more. A beautiful and memorable dinner at Arthur! I booked while visiting Sydney, drawn by the idea of discovering contemporary Australian cuisine built around Australian produce. Being there during the final days of Arthur in its current form made the experience feel even more special. The room is intimate and elegant, perfect for a romantic dinner. Service was refined, warm and very attentive, perhaps even a little too attentive at times for my personal taste. The dishes were precise, delicate and almost all delicious. A genuinely beautiful evening. If the final service in this current chapter is indeed on 31 May, the people who managed to book before then are very lucky. Enjoy the moment.

Went into Arthur on the weekend to get my out of the house and unwind the service was phenomenal and really made me feel welcome as a solo dinner. The highlight for me was the Abalone so much flavour on the plate. I decided to splurge and get the matched wine and wasn't disappointed the staff were hugely knowledgeable and happy to answer any of my questions being new to wine this really put me at ease. I'm excited to go back and see what the future brings post renovation.
