About White Horse

A reinvented White Horse has reopened on Crown St after undergoing a complete overhaul by a team of hospitality veterans led by Director Craig Hemmings to bring locals an inviting venue that will feature both a buzzy ground floor restaurant and an upstairs public bar, outdoor garden terrace and intimate function room.

β€œWe’re thrilled to bring the old girl back to life” – Craig Hemmings.

For a place to eat or drink, the questions that matter most are simple: is it open now, is it busy at peak hours, and does the menu suit the group you are bringing. Australian cafes tend to open early and close mid-afternoon, while restaurants and pubs run lunch and dinner services with a quiet spell in between, so an off-peak visit is worth a quick call. Card and tap-to-pay are accepted almost everywhere; some venues add a surcharge on weekends and public holidays.

Surry Hills is in New South Wales, on Australia's east coast, where summers are warm and humid, winters are mild and businesses keep to standard hours year-round with the usual public-holiday changes. Australian addresses list the street number, suburb, state abbreviation and postcode, and Surry Hills follows the same pattern; a number like 2/411 means unit 2 at number 411. The map link on this page shows the exact spot.

it is so easy to walk past @whitehorse, but you're making a mistake if you do miss this incredible menu! starting off with the Confit Duck Leg Cigar, black garlic, quandong $8 each, I didn't think I'd like this but it the thin crisp shell and rich duck filling was fabulous. we also got the Roasted Chicken Skin with spanner crab, cider gel $12 each also quite yummy, but I did wish the skin was a little thicker to get that flavour in stronger. Stracciatella, confit tomatoes, persimmon, shallot, chardonnay vinaigrette $24 can't go wrong, wish it had more slices of persimmon! we also got the W.A. rock lobster stuffed pappardelle, miso broth, bisque foam $42 I loved the foam and miso broth but the filling was a little on the blander side. for mains, something like the Seafood pie, mussels, scallop, prawn, potato, dashi veloutΓ© $46 would not be something i'd normally order but god damn am I glad we did. the fish bone garnish was completely edible too! the pie filling was soo creamy and rich, generous portion of protein and the pastry topping was perfectly golden and crisp. a must order, alongside their Grilled brassicas, burnt butter, sesame, leek oil $21 and Duck fat potatoes, confit

We had a lovely dinner last night at White Horse. It’s a classy warm venue with a chilled and comfortable vibe uplifted for endearing and wholesome service. Our highlights were the seafood pie decorated with an edible potato fish skeleton as well as the beef tartare. I’m always a sucker for bread and really enjoyed also

Every dish was thoughtful and beautifully balanced. The tuna with cucumber was fresh and light, the marinated cherry tomatoes with creamy cheese were sweet, tangy and incredibly moreish, and even the duck spring rolls with olives were something I'd never tasted before. The duck was absolutely stunningβ€”beautifully plated, perfectly cooked, juicy and tender. The sauce reminded me a little of the flavours of Peking duck. My favourite, though, was the M7 Wagyu steak. It was served with mushrooms and a house-made sauce, and everything about it was spot on. The quality of the beef was outstanding, and it was cooked exactly the way I like it. We also tried the lobster dumplings, the market fish and a fresh salad, and every dish showed the same level of care and attention. The chef was also incredibly friendly and happy to answer our questions, which made the experience even more memorable.

Incredible! We had dinner at The White Horse in Surry Hills last weekend and were absolutely delighted. Every dish felt thoughtful and was beautifully executed. The standout snacks were the confit duck leg cigars and the roasted chicken skin with spanner crab β€” both utterly delicious. From the small plates, the wagyu steak tartare was sensational. The pork belly French toast was balanced perfectly with apple and finger lime. The WA rock lobster stuffed pappardelle was another highlight β€” luxurious, delicate and full of flavour without being heavy. For mains, the dry-aged Aylesbury duck was magnificent. Perfectly cooked, beautifully presented and one of the best duck dishes we’ve had in a long time. We paired this with the crispiest crispy potatoes and the grilled brassicas with burnt butter - divine! Dessert calories don’t count so of course we finished with the tart tatin and Brie ice cream. I was swooning by this point. Both were elegant, balanced and a wonderful way to end the meal. The service was exceptional - Maureen and the entire team were warm and attentive, and the whole experience felt relaxed yet special. It’s clear that a great deal of care goes into both the fo

We had a late lunch booking at 3:30 p.m. so we got to see the restaurant in lunch mode and morph into night time mode. The room is absolutely stunning and beautifully lit. The food also was amazing. We had been here a couple years ago and it has maintained its consistency. Top top dishes were Stracciatella, confit tomatoes, persimmon, shallot, chardonnay vinaigrette and the Dry aged aylesbury duck, rhubarb, native fruit, cranberry hibiscus. The service was wonderful and inobtrusive but attentive. Thank you guys for such a great experience.
