About Stanley Restaurant

Inspired by the waterfront of Hong Kong’s Stanley Bay.

The menu is built around Head Chef Louis Tikaram’s philosophy of great food, friends, fishermen and farmers, showcasing Australian seafood, meat and seasonal produce paired with traditional Cantonese flavours.

Eating out in Australia ranges from beachside takeaways to hatted dining rooms, and a listing like this one is best judged on freshness, turnover and how consistent the reviews are rather than on decor. If you have dietary needs, most kitchens will adapt a dish if you ask. Licensed venues serve alcohol; BYO places let you bring a bottle for a small corkage fee. Tipping is appreciated but never expected.

The business lists hours on 1 day of the week. The most common schedule is 11 am–10 pm. Unfortunately Stanley didn't quite live up to expectations or the price tag. At the same price point as a certain Mr ____ in the city, I'd much rather go there for quality and consistency. The dim sum here was just OK - all of the dumpling skins were a bit thick/doughy and the flavour of the seafood was not distinct hence tastewise they were all much of a muchness. The batter on the fried foods did not stay crispy for long (that goes for both the calamari & sweet and sour pork). The sweet and sour pork batter was thick and the sauce was a bit gluggy - not upscale Cantonese restaurant standard. The Peking duck and black bean beef were decent - although their ducks are very small so the portion size is ungenerous. The crayfish lo mein was unfortunately very disappointing - the garlic butter sauce was, for some reason, sweet. It tasted wrong and sickening and we could not finish the dish. Service is still finding its feet though the same mistake made 4 times was a bit much - we added extras to our entrees and dim sum and all were forgotten and had to be made up. We had to ask and follow up about each mistake even after we explained and clarified the first time it happened and atte

We booked Stanley prior to opening, specifically to make sure we could get a nice table inside, so the experience was disappointing from the moment we arrived. There were only three of us, yet we were seated out the back in a dark section with no view of the water. We asked if we could move to one of the many empty tables in the main section of the restaurant, but were told they were completely booked. Interestingly, we sat there for the next hour and a half and not a single person was seated in that entire section. What made it worse was the attitude of the person managing that area. Rather than trying to accommodate a very simple request, particularly for a brand-new restaurant, the response came across as arrogant and dismissive. Service wasn't much better. We waited around 30 minutes before our food order was taken. The first beer we ordered wasn't available, and neither was the first bottle of wine we selected. Unfortunately, the food didn't make up for the experience. It was average at best and certainly not at the level we expected. Overall, a very disappointing experience. Poor seating, slow service, unavailable drinks and an unnecessarily arrogant attitude when we sim

We ordered 1/2 Dozen oysters and 2 southern lobsters. The oysters came out fairly quickly. However there was 12 oysters on the plate. I thought they might have done that since they were tiny. However I brought it to the waiter’s attention since they were $7.50 each and didn’t want ending up paying for 12. After the waiter gave up convincing me that a dozen was a quantity of 24, he agreed to only charge me for 6. We had to wait 1hr and 35 minutes for the main, out came 2 lobsters smelling fishy. The quality of the lobsters was equivalent to what I would expect from the supermarket freezer on special. At payment the bill still showed 12 oysters which I of course refused to pay. Oysters was then removed. It’s a shame since we where really looking forward to the experience, but not very likely to return.
